The English Thoroughbred breed can be traced back to three founding stallions: Darley Arabian, Byerley Turk and Godolphin, which is known as Godolphin Arabian or Godolphin Barb.
As a gift from the Beys of Tunis, the Berber stallion Shams, born around 1724, came to King Louis XV and only gained his well-known name through his last owner, the 2nd Earl of Godolphin. The fragrance “Godolphin” by Parfums de Marly was dedicated to this important animal.
Under the aegis of saffron is the opening, which gathers thyme, cypress and green notes around it. From the start, however, fruity notes are also present and a tart hint of maté. The leathery saffron works its way over the heart of rose, iris and jasmine into the sumptuous leather base, whose accord of vetiver, cedarwood, musk, amber and vanilla is reminiscent of soft and highly refined leather.
An exceedingly cultivated, fine leather fragrance that Parfums de Marly present with “Godolphin”, with a lively and optimistic undertone.
